Maximize Your Production Savings with New Mexico's Film Tax Credits
Take advantage of New Mexico’s generous Film Tax Credit, offering up to 40% savings on qualified expenditures for your production. With additional uplifts for series television, pilots, and filming in designated zones, you can maximize your budget and resources. Start filming in the Land of Enchantment and enjoy significant tax benefits!
The FIlm Tax Credit
Starting July 1, 2023, film production companies that meet the requirements of the Film Production Tax Credit Act can apply for a tax credit for qualified expenditures made in New Mexico. This initiative, overseen by the Taxation and Revenue Department, aims to boost the state’s attractiveness for film productions.
- Base Credit Amount: 25%
- Maximum Credit Amount: 40%
Note: The uplifts for television and the Qualified Production Facilities (QPF) cannot be stacked.
Series Television and Standalone Pilots Intended For Series Television Uplift
An additional 5% tax credit is available for series television productions or pilots if specific criteria are met:
Series Television Production:
- Must be intended for commercial distribution.
- Must have an order for at least six episodes in a single season.
- Must have a New Mexico budget of at least $50,000 per episode
Pilot Production:
- Must be intended for series production in New Mexico.
Qualified Production Facilities (QPF) Uplift
Productions using qualified production facilities can benefit from an additional 5% tax credit. This credit applies exclusively to the time spent in production at the qualified facility and does not include offices attached to the QPF.
10% Filming Uplift Zone
A 10% tax credit is available for qualified expenditures in New Mexico areas at least sixty miles outside the Santa Fe and Albuquerque City Halls.
